ORxLabels 4.0

ORxLabels™ presents a modern approach to medication labeling in anesthesia, utilizing a dedicated app for Apple iPhone® and iPad® devices in conjunction with an AirPrint-compatible label printer. This system empowers anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to generate labels on-demand, directly from their devices via Wi-Fi.

The app features a comprehensive database of common anesthesia medications, complete with associated expiration time intervals. When the caregiver initiates the printing process for syringe, vial, or dilution labels, the app automatically calculates the relevant expiration dates and times for each selected medication. It subsequently communicates wirelessly with the label printer to produce medication labels that provide essential information: drug name, concentration, preparation date and time, provider’s initials, and calculated expiration date and time. The labels are printed in a clear black-and-white format.

In alignment with the Joint Commission’s 2015 National Patient Safety Goals, ORxLabels™ facilitates compliance during JCAHO inspections, potentially improving hospital performance metrics in this critical area and enhancing overall patient safety.

Developed by an anesthesiologist, the app emphasizes speed and user-friendliness. Its capability to print multiple labels simultaneously allows for rapid preparation of all necessary medication labels for a surgical case within seconds.

This medication labeling system makes use of readily available technology, requiring only the purchase of the app and an economical label printer for each operating room. Thermal label printers, known for their cost-effectiveness—requiring no ink and offering label media at approximately one cent per label—complement this efficient setup.

The Basic version of ORxLabels™ permits printing of up to 12 labels per day after an initial quota of 100 labels is reached. For those requiring greater volume, an In-App purchase option for the Pro version offers unlimited printing capabilities.
